Join John Wing, Trustee of Ware Museum CIO and the Southern Maltings, as he explores the history of one of Ware’s most iconic buildings.
From its origins as a farmyard and 120 years as a working malting, through later roles as a warehouse, pub, and social club, John charts the Southern Maltings’ remarkable transformation into the Ware Arts Centre. He will also examine how the 1960s Inner Relief Road scheme, which threatened the building’s very existence, paradoxically helped preserve it by sparing it from demolition.
John’s book, A History of the Southern Malting, will be available to purchase in the Museum shop.
