Discover the life of Lady Ann Fanshawe – writer, mother, and diplomatic wife. Drawing on her memoir and her receipt book of culinary and medicinal recipes, this exhibition explores the life of a remarkable woman. Ann was a supporter of the Royalist cause during the Civil War and later travelled with her diplomat husband to Spain and Portugal – where she may have tasted the ‘icy cream’ which she records in her receipt book. Ann and her husband Sir Richard Fanshawe are buried in St Mary’s Church, Ware.
