In this talk, Lucy Moore will trace the life of a seventeenth century Royalist, Anne Fanshawe, who was born at Balls Park in 1625, through political exile in Europe during the Civil Wars and her return to England under Charles II.  Her talk is based on her 2017 biography Lady Fanshawe’s Receipt Book.

Moore is ‘a historian with a novelist’s relish for human foibles’ (Sunday Times).  Her books have covered subjects as diverse as highwaymen in Georgian London, Indian princesses, the Jazz Age in America, the dancer Nijinsky, early anthropologists and the women of the French Revolution.
