Our new exhibition explores the history of Ware’s Southern Malting and celebrates the hard working lives of the maltmakers.
Ware has been described as ‘the premier malting town in England’ and ‘the capital of the British malting industry’ and this exhibition charts the history and transformation of one of its iconic maltings, built in 1838, from a malthouse to warehouse, pub and social club and, since 1980, the Ware Community Arts Centre.
The exhibition features photographs and malting equipment as well as documents including a memoir of one of Ware’s maltmakers.
